Hotels Near PortMiami: Where to Stay Before Your Cruise
Updated October 11, 2026
The best hotel near the Port of Miami is the one that makes your actual trip easier. That depends on when you land, how many nights you have, who is traveling and what you want to do before boarding.
For a single overnight stay, a convenient dinner, a comfortable room and a clear transfer plan usually matter more than a long amenities list. For two or three nights, the neighborhood becomes a bigger part of your vacation.
One night, simple morning
Start with Downtown or Brickell. Compare the hotel's full price, breakfast and the route to your assigned terminal.
Late flight into MIA
Compare airport hotels and confirm shuttle hours. A free shuttle is only useful if it runs when you arrive.
Beach time before sailing
Consider South Beach for a longer stay. Plan the port transfer before booking rather than leaving it for the morning.
Family or larger group
Check beds, occupancy and breakfast first. Calculate transportation for the whole group and every suitcase.
Check your port first. PortMiami and Port Everglades are different ports. Port Everglades is in Fort Lauderdale. A hotel chosen for one port may be inconvenient for the other.
PortMiami sits on Dodge Island, across the water from Downtown. A hotel can look close to a ship on a map while still requiring a transfer to a particular terminal. Neighborhood labels and bay views do not tell you the full journey.

Downtown: a practical place to start for one night
Downtown is a sensible first search when your priority is staying on the mainland near PortMiami. Look at the property's actual address: central Downtown, the waterfront and the area farther north along Biscayne Bay are not identical locations.
If you arrive with an afternoon to spare, you can plan a waterfront walk or time around Bayfront Park and Bayside. If you arrive after dinner, focus on check-in arrangements and available food instead. Check whether a major event near your hotel could affect access or noise.
Choose it when: you want a city setting and a straightforward plan for the next morning.
Check carefully: breakfast costs, mandatory fees, parking and the pickup location.
Brickell: useful for dinner and a city stay
Brickell works well when you want to walk to dinner and spend some time in the city before the cruise. Compare the hotel's immediate surroundings, not just the district name. A room near a useful restaurant or transit stop can make a short stay easier.
The Metromover can help you explore Downtown and Brickell, but it does not deliver you directly to your ship. Keep your sightseeing plan separate from your terminal transfer.
Choose it when: restaurants and a comfortable overnight matter as much as proximity.
Check carefully: the room layout for families and the full price with parking if you drive.
Airport hotels: practical for a late arrival
If your flight lands late, staying near Miami International Airport may simplify the first night. A hotel with an airport shuttle can reduce the number of arrangements you need, provided you verify its hours and pickup instructions.
“Airport area” covers multiple locations. A property in Doral is not automatically the same transfer as one beside MIA. Compare exact addresses and include the next morning's port transportation in your budget.
Choose it when: resting after a flight is the priority or the total is meaningfully lower.
Check carefully: shuttle schedules, late-night food and transport to the ship.
South Beach: choose it for the experience
South Beach is worth considering when you want the beach to be part of your Miami visit. With two nights, you have more room to enjoy it without fitting everything between a flight and boarding.
For a late arrival followed by a next-morning cruise, ask whether you will actually use the beach. Compare resort charges and your transfer plan as well as the room rate. Request a room suited to your sleep preferences and check recent feedback about noise.
Choose it when: you have time for a beach stay.
Check carefully: fees, parking, room size and the route off Miami Beach.
A concrete shortlist
Miami hotels to compare before your cruise
These seven properties give you a starting point across the main areas. They are examples to compare, not a ranked list or a claim that one hotel is best for everyone. We have not personally inspected or stayed at these properties for this guide.
Locations and the specific amenities mentioned below were checked against official hotel websites. Room rates, availability, packages and policies depend on your dates. The reasons to consider each property are editorial judgments based on location and the listed features.
Downtown waterfront
InterContinental Miami
A downtown waterfront stay. Consider it if you want a waterfront hotel and time to enjoy the downtown setting before sailing. Its location is the main reason to put it on your shortlist; a view of the bay does not replace a transfer to your terminal.
Before you book: Check the total for your exact room and rate. Breakfast and parking may be bundled into specific offers rather than every booking.
A mainland city base. A useful comparison for travelers who want to stay on the mainland north of central Downtown. Compare its exact location with your evening plans rather than treating every hotel with “Downtown” in its name as being beside Bayside.
Before you book: Check the route to your specific terminal, parking charges and whether your selected rate includes breakfast.
A bayfront option to compare. Include this waterfront property when comparing the north Downtown area. It can suit a stay centered on the bay rather than the beach; these are different experiences on opposite sides of the water.
Before you book: Confirm the room view you are buying, the full fee breakdown and your morning transportation. Do not assume a free cruise shuttle.
Breakfast and a walkable evening. The official property page lists free hot breakfast and a location near restaurants and the Metromover. Those details make it worth comparing for a family or anyone who wants a simple breakfast before leaving for the ship.
Before you book: The official page lists no airport shuttle. Budget separately for getting from MIA to the hotel and from the hotel to PortMiami.
An airport-focused overnight. The official site lists a complimentary airport shuttle. Consider this if you arrive late, want to rest close to MIA and plan to travel to the port the following morning.
Before you book: Airport transportation and cruise transportation are separate. Check any cruise package conditions, shuttle operating hours and breakfast inclusions for your dates.
Another airport-area comparison. The official site lists complimentary airport shuttle service. Compare it with neighboring airport properties using the final room total and the practical details of your arrival.
Before you book: Do not transfer amenities or package terms from another Marriott property. Verify breakfast, port transportation, parking and late-arrival pickup directly.
A beach stay before the cruise. The official site identifies it as an oceanfront South Beach hotel. Put it on your shortlist if having beach time is part of the trip, especially when you have more than one night before sailing.
Before you book: Compare resort or amenity charges, parking, room layout and cancellation terms. Plan a vehicle transfer from Miami Beach to the cruise terminal.
Hotels near PortMiami with a shuttle: what to check
A shuttle can be useful, but the word alone does not tell you what is included. An airport shuttle connects the hotel and MIA. A cruise shuttle connects the hotel and PortMiami. A cruise package may include a transportation benefit only for guests who book that particular rate.
Do not choose a hotel because a search result says “free shuttle” without checking the destination. A property may arrange a paid service through another company, and a shared shuttle may have fixed departure times or stop at several terminals.
Is the transfer to PortMiami, and is it included in my exact rate?
Is the price per person or per vehicle? Are children charged?
What time does it leave, and does that fit my assigned arrival window?
Must I reserve seats before check-in?
Does it serve my terminal and carry all our luggage?
Can the operator accommodate our mobility needs or required child seating?
Is the return after the cruise included, or only the outbound ride?
Compare the group total. A per-person shuttle can cost more than a vehicle for several travelers. Compare live quotes for the right vehicle size rather than assuming either option is cheaper.

How to get from your Miami hotel to PortMiami
Start with the cruise line's current instructions for your sailing. Save the ship name, terminal and assigned arrival time. PortMiami has multiple terminals, so asking for “the port” is less precise than navigating to the correct building.

How long will the trip take?
Use a route from your exact hotel to your assigned terminal, then check it again on the morning you travel. A neighborhood-wide mileage figure cannot account for terminal location, route, traffic or pickup delays. Leave time for checkout, loading luggage and entering the terminal.
MIA's official transportation page places PortMiami about nine miles from the airport. That is useful context, not a driving-time promise or a distance for every airport hotel. See MIA's transportation information ↗
Can you walk to the cruise terminal?
PortMiami's official guidance notes pedestrian access across the north side of the bridge. The complete journey can still involve a substantial walk to your terminal with luggage, heat or rain. Look at the full route and your needs before deciding. For most visitors with cruise bags, arranging a vehicle is a more practical default.
What about the Metromover and trolley?
The port describes a connection using Metrorail, Metromover and the Coral Way Trolley. The trolley serves specified port stops, rather than every ship's luggage drop-off. Check the current service and your final walking segment if you plan to use it.
How to find a better-value hotel near the Port of Miami
A lower advertised room rate can become a more expensive overnight once you add fees and transportation. Compare identical dates, guest counts, room types and cancellation terms. A rate for two adults may not represent the total for a family of four.
Your overnight total: room + taxes + mandatory fees + airport transfer + port transfer + breakfast + parking, if needed.
Look at the final checkout price. Check whether a resort or destination fee is mandatory, whether breakfast covers everyone and whether parking is charged per night or calendar day. Refundable and prepaid rates should be compared separately.
A simple example
Imagine one hotel costs $180 including taxes and mandatory fees, with $40 in combined transfers and $35 for breakfast. Its total is $255. Another costs $220 on the same all-in basis, includes breakfast and needs $30 in combined transfers. Its total is $250. The second room looks more expensive but the stay costs less.
This is an illustrative calculation, not a quote or a current Miami hotel price.
When should you book?
Once your sailing and travel dates are set, compare refundable options so you have a workable plan. Check the cancellation deadline and whether payment is due immediately. If prices change, recheck the full terms before replacing a reservation.
For a busy weekend, broadening the search to airport hotels may help, but only if the savings remain after transfers. Avoid choosing a distant property for a small room-rate difference that creates a much harder morning.
The details that matter
Traveling with children, a group or mobility needs
Start with the room you will actually reserve. “Sleeps four” does not tell you whether everyone gets a suitable bed. Check queen versus double beds, sofa beds, crib availability and maximum occupancy. Connecting rooms may be a request rather than a guarantee.
Breakfast: check service hours and whether all guests are included.
Luggage: choose transport for passengers and suitcases together. A vehicle with enough seats may not have enough cargo space.
Children: arrange appropriate seating with the transport provider before travel.
Accessibility: ask about the specific room features you require and vehicle access. A general accessibility label may not answer your particular needs.
Early arrivals: confirm luggage storage and room availability instead of assuming early check-in.
If you are driving: hotel parking or port parking?
Compare a written stay-and-park offer with the port's current parking arrangements. Ask how many cruise nights are included, where the vehicle stays, whether oversized vehicles are accepted and what happens after you return.
Do not leave a car at the hotel for the sailing based only on ordinary overnight parking terms.
Arrive, check in and choose dinner near the hotel. Confirm transportation and your terminal before bed. In the morning, have breakfast, check out and leave according to your assigned arrival window. Keep sightseeing optional so a delayed flight does not disrupt the essentials.
A late arrival near MIA
Save the hotel's shuttle instructions before flying and confirm what to do if your flight is delayed beyond operating hours. Keep a taxi or rideshare plan available. The next morning, allow time for breakfast and a separate trip to the port.
Two nights with time at the beach
Check in on the first day and use the next day for the beach and nearby activities. Finish essential shopping before the final evening, repack and arrange transportation. On embarkation day, prioritize getting to your terminal rather than squeezing in one more outing.
Arriving through Fort Lauderdale?
If your cruise departs from PortMiami, a flight into FLL adds a separate journey into Miami. Compare the full airport-to-hotel-to-port plan. A convenient airport hotel in Fort Lauderdale is not automatically convenient for a Miami sailing.
